Central Library: Your Gateway to Knowledge, Innovation & Success

The Central Library of BLDEA’s V. P. Dr. P. G. Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology, Vijayapur, serves as a dynamic gateway to knowledge, learning, research and innovation. It provides access to current and relevant information in Engineering, Science, Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences and plays an integral role in supporting the teaching, learning, and research and outreach activities of the institution. With a strong focus on user needs, the Library continuously develops and delivers innovative, technology-enabled and need-based information services that support students, faculty members and research scholars.

The Library has developed a comprehensive collection to meet the diverse academic and research requirements of the campus community. It provides access to more than 93,000 books covering over 24,475 titles, along with more than 85,000 electronic books and journals. The Library also provides access to a core collection of over 7,120 e-journals, e-databases, e-books and other electronic resources to support academic learning and research. In addition, users can access journals through the VTU Consortium as well as journals subscribed directly from publishers and reputed subscription agencies. The Library subscribes to more than 75 print technical journals covering a wide range of subjects in Science and Engineering. A dedicated collection of books is also available for competitive examinations such as Civil Services, GATE, GRE and TOEFL, along with resources on personality development and biographies.

To provide a modern and seamless learning experience, the Library services are fully automated using KOHA (24.11.01), an open-source Integrated Library Management System hosted on a cloud platform. Through the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), users can search the Library collection, check their borrowing status and issue history, place online reservations and explore newly added books and subscribed journals. Remote access facilities enable users to access selected digital resources beyond the campus, thereby supporting learning anytime and anywhere. The Library also maintains a separate e-resources section providing access to digital learning materials, including CDs and DVDs associated with books, theses and dissertations.

The Library’s digital infrastructure further strengthens technology-enabled learning. The Digital Library is equipped with more than 50 terminals for students and provides access to NPTEL course materials and video lectures, enabling students to watch and download relevant learning resources. To facilitate convenient access to digital content, the Library has established 14 Wi-Fi access points across the premises, along with a dedicated Laptop Zone and adequate charging facilities. These facilities provide students with a flexible and technology-supported environment for individual study, academic exploration and digital learning. The Language Laboratory also supports students in developing their language and communication abilities.

The Library plays an important role in strengthening the institution’s research ecosystem by providing specialized research support services to faculty members and research scholars. Its Institutional Digital Repository, developed using the open-source DSpace platform, facilitates the systematic organization, preservation and accessibility of institutional scholarly resources. The Library also provides access to iThenticate and Drillbit, academic plagiarism and similarity-checking tools that support academic integrity and contribute to improving the quality of scholarly publications. By continuously identifying and adopting emerging academic technologies and research-support tools, the Library contributes to the institution’s research, innovation and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

With its extensive print and electronic collections, digital infrastructure, research support services and technology-enabled facilities, the Central Library serves as more than a traditional repository of books.
