As soon as India became Independent, a different kind of revolution began to spread across the country. The goal of this revolution was to make India a progressive nation. Many philanthropists and socially-oriented organizations believed that only education would take India forward. BLDEA was at the forefront of this revolution in North Karnataka, especially the Mumbai-Karnataka region. In the undivided Bijapur, the historic town of Jamkhandi did not have any higher educational institution in the 1950s. Jamkhandi had a rich legacy. It was the capital of Jamkhandi state, one of the Maratha princely states and ruled by the Patwardhan dynasty.
Started with 200 students, the college has grown today into a massive educational institution with a student strength of more than five thousand. Its campus is spread over an area of around 54 acres. It imparts education in Arts, Science, Commerce, Business Administration and Computer Science. In terms of infrastructure, the college is among the best in the North Karnataka region. Of the total of 40 classrooms, ten classrooms have information and communication technology facilities. There are 25 laboratories, two seminar halls cum auditoriums, a language lab, a museum, two incubation centres, a media centre, two hostels for girls and two hostels for boys.
The library is well-stocked and is managed with the help of an Integrated Library Management System. E-book subscriptions have been taken through INFLIBNET.
The college is permanently affiliated with Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. In the Fourth cycle of NAAC Accreditation, the college has been awarded 'A' Grade with CGPA 3.14. The college has been identified as a mentorship college under the UGC scheme of "Paramarsh". So far, 79 students of the college have secured ranks at the university level.
Excellent sports facilities have been provided to ensure the fitness and all-round development of students. In the previous three years, the students have won 62 university blues, one gold and one silver at the state level competitions, and participated in one national championship.
The alumni of the college are serving in national and international organizations. A swimming pool, an indoor stadium, a health fitness centre, a vast polo ground and a botanical garden with exclusive and rare species are the unique features of this college.
NCC, NSS, Scouts & Guides, Placement Cell, Youth Red Cross, Nature Club and SWO wings of the college are actively engaged in their activities.
